 Job description

We are looking for an experienced research consultant with a strong profile in market research, data analysis and report drafting to join our Accra team for a period of 3 weeks, starting asap. After successfully completing the projects, the consultant has the opportunity to become an AFG Research Fellow.

The AFG Research Fellowship is a great opportunity for recent graduates, young professionals and aspiring business leaders to gain and deepen experience in research for business, market research, consulting, and the African business landscape more generally for a period of 3 – 6 months with the possibility of extension, or being hired full-time.  

The consultant’s responsibilities:

-          Lead the completion of three core projects:

  • A comparative report about the African business landscape and concrete business and policy case studies in 12 different economies on the continent
  • A report about doing business in Nigeria in collaboration with a large bank institution in Nigeria
  • A report about the impact of targeted training for smallholder farmers in the rice value chain in Ghana

-          Tasks include:

  • Desktop research
  • Clean-up of data sets
  • Statistical analysis of collected data
  • Summary of analysis in the form of reports
  • Drafting of chapters and case studies for report

The responsibilities of the AFG Research Fellow would typically encompass:

-          Support the Accra team on a variety of client and internal engagements across the different service lines of AFG (research, think tank, business advisory, data & analytics). Responsibilities include

  • Supervision and support of ongoing research work
  • Full-time support of client engagements for African businesses and international investors
  • Contribution to business development events of AFG such as workshops and conferences

-          Support the development of best practices and effective knowledge management systems in research



-          A Master’s degree with previous relevant work experience, e.g. full-time work or internships that required research and analysis

-          Experience with drafting reports, data driven research, (numerical) data analysis, statistical programmes

-          Excellent writing skills in English, good command of French an asset

-          Good understanding of the economic development and business landscape on the continent

-          Team-player attitude and general openness for new terrains

-          Proficient user of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel

-          Demonstrated passion for fostering private sector development in Africa and for promoting African excellence

-          Availability to work full-time in Accra for a minimum duration of 3 weeks, start date: asap
