Local Champions in Africa
Emerging Global Enterprises

The flagship report of the AFG Think Tank, ‘Local Champions in Africa: Emerging global enterprises’, contains an array of case studies on local champions and policies to illustrate the stage of local economic value creation in Africa. The report is divided into three parts: Country profiles will provide the reader with an important overview of each of the country's demographics and key economic insights; Business case studies inform the reader about the history, progresses, challenges, and business models of selected local champion companies across three different industries; Policy profiles will shed a light on the political and economic environment that each of the selected companies find themselves in and the different ways in which it affects their growth.

Focus countries include Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, Namibia, South Africa, Gabon, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon and Mauritius. Other countries are still under review for a smaller feature in the publication. The selection of focus countries takes into account economic diversification and political stability criteria. Companies and policies are comprehensively scouted and shortlisted in all countries. In-depth interviews with company leaders and policymakers further illustrate and substantiate our case studies.

The report will be launched in the summer of 2017 and will be available for downloading on this website.
