Group manager in fast -growing Ghanaian family business

AFG is recruiting a Group Manager to join a fast-growing family business with interests across West Africa. The Group is an integrated African company with operations in energy, security services and real estate. The role is based in central Accra but may require occasional local and West Africa travel.

We are looking for a young, dynamic hands-on Group Manager to join our team to support the transformation of the family business group, reporting directly to the Founder and CFO.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership/Supervisory Role:

·      Develops strategic and transformational plans across the business groups

·      Leads the development and implementation of the business’s strategic objectives and processes

·      Engages in sensitive and high-value business development activities

·      Facilitate cross-functional team collaborations and support the development of business strategies, inclusive of long-term goals and objectives and key risk management

·      Supports top business leadership in solving high priority operational issues by driving the communication and development of suitable strategies and goals

·      Mentors key personnel across the business, assisting in the execution of duties upon request and ensuring constant improvement of skills by key personnel

·      Ensure cost efficiency through synergies and systems that eliminate duplication of key roles

 

Strategy Definition/Planning/Performance Management:

·      Leads the design of strategy across various high-value business projects within the Group

·      Sets up suitable initiatives to drive a dynamic organizational culture

·      Restructure existing and new businesses based on strategic opportunities, core competencies and cross-effect benefits

·      Drives the strategic planning process and acts as a trusted advisor to the business’s executive leadership and relevant stakeholders during strategy formulation, development, and execution

·      Supports the evaluation and development of the Group’s long-term strategic plans across the Group’s businesses

·      Develops the Group’s multi-year strategies and goals, establishes measurement criteria to monitor the performance of established strategies consistently, identify deficiencies, and avail actionable solutions

 

Operations:

·      Works with business leadership, executives, senior business development management, and stakeholders across the business to ensure that the Group’s business strategies are aligned to advance the overall Group strategy

·      Support the adoption of technology solutions that can facilitate management of the group

·      Gets deeply involved with the various group entities to solve operational bottlenecks and to drive change

·      Work closely with management for regular follow-ups on open opportunities

 

Analytics:

·      Defines the business’s analytical and financial frameworks to conduct analyses and resolve critical business issues

·      Develop and track monitoring system on group level to track performance of all entities

·      Performs thorough evaluations of business opportunities through analysis of potential business, inclusive of analyses of competition, finances, market, performance, technology and strategy

·      Provides the business’s executive leadership and stakeholders with key insights and feedback on various analyses in the form of reports to facilitate informed decision-making and strategy formulation

 

Job requirements

·      Undergraduate degree, preferably legal or business-related

·      Master’s degree, MBA preferred

·      At least 3 – 5 years of business analysis experience; work experience in top international consulting firms or the "Big 4" a plus

·      At least 2 years of experience in business development in an emerging market, preferably in West Africa

·      Knowledge of the energy, real estate and security services industries preferred

·      Strong organisational and interpersonal skills; ability to effectively communicate – both written and orally – with different stakeholders

·      Expert command of all MS Office applications and ability to learn other systems quickly

·      Creative, flexible and entrepreneurial mindset that self-starts and shapes ideas/projects

·      Excellent time and process management

·      Excellent written and oral language skills in the English language; other languages (French, local African languages) are a plus
