Chief Executive Officer

An agricultural company focusing on the post-harvest processing of grains and seed crops is looking for an experienced and dynamic individual to operate in the role of: Chief Executive Officer. We work within Nigeria’s thriving agricultural sector to optimize the value chain and to address challenges such as food loss and lack of liquidity for stakeholders by offering solutions for agro-commodity procurement, storage and specialist handling services and warehouse receipt finance. The ideal candidate is expected to consolidate the company’s position as the number one aggregator and processor of quality food crops in Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities

Governance and Company Functions:

• Always promote and protect the reputation of the company

• Create and maintain a modern, vibrant and innovative corporate culture within the company

• Work with key senior management executives to ensure that the company’s board receives the assurances they need on the effectiveness of the structures, policies and procedures put in place to create effective governance, organisational sustainability and the achievement of the company’s strategic objectives

Strategic Planning and Execution:

• Provide leadership in developing, recommending and monitoring the implementation of the company’s strategies, plans and policies to achieve sustainable growth and the desired impact of investments and the support it provides to agribusiness in Nigeria in a cohesive manner

• Raise funds for building the primary processing infrastructure for the Shea industry

• Ensure the company has a functional and effective processing line- from nuts to butter

• Organize community clusters and ensure procurements is secured and consistent

• Interact with investor groups to ensure company is well funded

• Determine which value chains to focus on

Communication:

• Ensure an effective communication strategy is in place and is being executed throughout the company

• Maintain communication with and from the executive director and chief operating officer

• Augment relationships with local partners (farmers) and global business and development partners

• Promote Good Corporate Citizenship within the company

• Take full responsibility of internal business-related communication

Job requirements

Education:

• Minimum of a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Agribusiness, Economics or other related professional education from an internationally recognised and accredited institution

• Relevant risk management and leadership courses attended an advantage

Experience:

• Solid and progressive management experience, of which 3-5 years post-MBA/Master‘s should be at senior management/CEO level in a comparable business entity

• Familiarity with the global and Nigerian markets and regulatory environments for agribusiness and financial services

• Nigerian and preferably international experiences

• Experience in agribusiness and/or rural finance will be prioritised

• The ability to manage budgets and resource allocations efficiently

• Understanding of the political economy and macroeconomic dynamics of Nigeria and the region and the influence they have on the company

• Understanding of development financing, best practice policies and commonly used instruments and modalities

Personal Skills:

• The ability to work with development of strategy and to manage it efficiently for the outcomes identified

• Ability to identify new opportunities for the company, structuring solutions and being able to negotiate operational partnerships for implementation and financing

• Effective planning and organisational skills

• Ability to effectively communicate and respond to sensitive inquiries

  • A good and resilient negotiator with sound judgment and the ability to “close the deal” in a timely and equitable manner

• Results driven with business acumen

• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
